Stronger Together: Jr. Blue Hens, First State Join Forces

NEWARK, Del. — Unified by a common goal of the betterment of youth hockey in Delaware, the Delaware Jr. Blue Hens and First State Ice Hockey have entered into a partnership to join forces and share resources, both organizations announced jointly on Wednesday (April 28).

Within the partnership, Sean Cannon and Tom Gibson, hockey directors for First State and the Jr. Blue Hens, respectively, will collaborate to craft a program that draws from the resources each organization has cultivated, and which gives each player — regardless of age or ability level — the best experience possible, both on and off the ice.

“The Jr. Blue Hens are excited to come together with a great partner like First State,” said Dan Schindler, incoming president of the Delaware Jr. Blue Hens. “They bring a lot of experience to the organization, and both organizations together — with what we both bring to the table — are just going to strengthen Delaware hockey.”

The driving forces behind First State Ice Hockey, which has quickly become the premier youth hockey development organization in Delaware, concur completely that the alliance between the two groups is bound to do great things for youth hockey players within the state.

“The Jr. Blue Hens and First State Ice Hockey complement one another with their respective strengths,” said John Sidoriak, president of First State Ice Hockey. “Together, we feel we can give youth hockey players in Delaware unparalleled opportunities.

The Jr. Blue Hens, a USA Hockey Tier II youth hockey club which competes in the Delaware Valley Hockey League out of the University of Delaware Ice Arenas in Newark, Del., offer teams from the U8 to U18 age groups at a variety of competitive levels. As part of the alliance with First State, all Jr. Blue Hens players will benefit from skill development under First State’s coaching staff, and First State will also coach and manage day-to-day operation of the Hens’ U14, U16 and U18 teams competing at the AA level.
