MAS Round 1: Inferno 14U 6, VSK Wings Blue 3

COLMAR, Pa. — A two-goal game from Ryder Thompson and a 19-save performance in net from Jake Rotwitt propelled the Inferno 14U squad (1-0-0) to a 6-3 win over the VSK Wings Blue, of South Brunswick, N.J., to kick off the Mid-Atlantic Spring Showcase tournament on Friday (June 4) at Hatfield Ice.

A pair of quick goals from Joey Coletto propelled the Wings to a 3-1 lead midway through the second period, but the Inferno found their rhythm in the final 21 minutes and rallied to victory with the aid of five unanswered goals.

“I think everybody got back in the rhythm of playing games again,” said Inferno coach Ross Hyatt. “It’s been probably two months since some of these guys had played, but once they got the worries out of the way, they started playing hockey again.”

Thompson’s two goals — the second of which was the go-ahead goal at 12:59 in the middle frame — provided half of the Inferno’s second-period productivity, along with a power play tally from Conor McCarthy and a late-period goal from Logan Brown. Ricky Wright, who assisted on two of the Inferno’s second-period goals, added one of his own 8:01 in the third to seal victory.

The Inferno 14U team will take on the VSK Wings Red squad Saturday at Oaks Center Ice at 10:25 a.m. before returning to Hatfield to face Valley Forge at 4:35 p.m.
